Hope Begins with Prevention and Screenings

Providence Regional Cancer Center offers prevention and screening opportunities – making it easy for you to take charge of your health. We’ll help you determine your risk for cancer, and give you the information and tools to help prevent it.

Most Cancers Can Be Prevented

Research shows one-third of yearly cancer deaths can be attributed to a person’s diet and physical activity habits. Another one-third of cancer deaths are due to cigarette smoking. Old habits are hard to break. But, we’re here to help. Our nutritional therapists can guide your diet choices, and we’ll help get you into free smoking cessation classes with pharmaceutical support.

We can help you find out. Many cancers can be prevented with nutrition and exercise, while others can be caught in the early stages through simple screening tools.

Walking

Exercise can help prevent cancer, as well diabetes and heart disease. Walk two times a week on the Centennial Trail with INHS Community Wellness. For more information, call (509) 474-5490.

Health Screenings

Online Risk Assessment

Take this simple online risk assessment (provided by the Harvard School of Public Health). Then call us at (509) 474-5490 to talk about your risks. Our doctors and nurses can help you make important decisions that can change your cancer risk.

What About Family History?

The Inland Northwest Genetics Clinic, located in the Sacred Heart Doctors Building, provides genetic consultations to help you understand the role heredity plays in cancer risk or recurrence. You meet with a genetic counselor, a medical geneticist, or both. They discuss your family history and review medical records. Sometimes, they’ll perform a physical exam or order lab tests. Inland Imaging

Inland Imaging, LLC, the largest diagnostic imaging provider in the Inland Northwest, offers advanced technology and provides fast, accurate results from doctors who specialize in reading mammograms, CT, MRI and PET scans.

Inland Imaging’s Breast Imaging Program performs and reads more than 35,000 mammograms every year. This volume, coupled with advanced digital mammography and the ImageChecker computer-aided diagnosis system, ensures unmatched capability and exceptional quality. Women’s Health Center Coach

Sacred Heart Women’s Health Center operates the Women’s Health Center Coach in conjunction with Inland Imaging. The coach provides breast cancer, osteoporosis and other health screenings to women in their local communities and at work. It makes health services accessible, convenient and affordable by traveling to work places, malls, medical clinics, retirement communities, community centers and rural areas. Free Community Health Screenings

INHS Community Wellness, an affiliate of Sacred Heart and Holy Family Hospitals, offers free health screenings throughout the year, including ongoing colorectal cancer screenings and a skin cancer screening each May. Call (509) 232-8138 for more information.
