Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never had physical therapy before. How does this work?

The first step is to see your healthcare provider (MD, DO, PA, NP, ARNP, DC, etc) and obtain a referral or prescription for physical therapy. You may then call our office to schedule an initial evaluation where the physical therapist will find out more about your diagnosis, your short and long term goals, and your limitations. You and your therapist will then create a treatment plan that best suits your body and your schedule. The clinical secretaries at the front desk will then schedule follow up visits for you.

Do I need a prescription/referral?

Yes. Our clinic requires a prescription or referral in order to treat you even if your insurance company states that no referral is required.

Do you accept my insurance?

Our physical therapists are contracted individually with most major insurance companies. In order to be completely sure, please ask for your therapist’s first and last name or NPI number so you can contact your insurance company to ask.

What are my physical therapy benefits?

Our clinical secretaries do not verify insurance. Please contact your insurance carrier to find out what your benefits are.

Can I bring someone to my appointment?

Yes, you are welcome to bring a family member, friend, or caretaker to your appointment. Because of privacy laws, only patients may be in the gym or pool areas. Please do not bring young children to your appointments.

What should I wear to physical therapy?

You should wear stable shoes and loose, comfortable clothing that allows the therapist access to the body part we are treating. Please do NOT wear scented products such as lotions, aftershaves, perfumes, or colognes.

How long will my appointment last?

All appointments are 40 minutes. We ask that you arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork for your first appointment. Please plan on the initial evaluation lasting 45 minutes.

Can I request a certain therapist?

Absolutely! We will do our best to get you in with the therapist of your preference.

I don’t know any of the therapists. Who should I see? Our clinical secretaries have extensive knowledge of each physical therapist’s strengths and backgrounds and will match your diagnosis to the appropriate provider.

Do you use physical therapy assistants or aides?

No. You will be treated by a physical therapist for each and every appointment in our clinic.

My doctor wants me to have aquatic/pool therapy, do you have a pool?

We have full access to The Valley Athletic Club’s gym and pool. Your first visit will be in our clinic so the therapist can evaluate you. If they find aquatic therapy to be appropriate, your visits after that may be in the pool.

I am not a member at The Valley, can I use the pool on days I do NOT have a therapy appointment?

No. You may only use the VAC facilities while our Physical Therapist is with you.
