Philosophy of Care

Cancer Care is a partnership formed between patient and oncologist. My goal is to make sure my patients are genuinely informed about the nature of their disease, have an understanding of what might account for its occurrence and then provide the needed information and treatment alternatives to empower them to make the best choice for themselves.

Much of our time, then, during visits with my patients, is spent providing this information, validating the knowledge the patients may already have heard or read from others. This approach asks our patients to help take joint responsibility for decision making. The Center and the Providence Health System deeply believe in and respect the right of patient autonomy – that is, the patient’s ability to make informed choices about their own health care.

Patient Ratings and Comments

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments. These comments are the views and opinions of patients and are not endorsed by or necessarily reflect the views of Providence.

since my diagnosis in 2013 and treatment that followed and now in full remission- I have only experienced positive and professional care. I have only good things to say about the amount of professionalism the staff and setting is always clean, sunny and a good vibe. I love this place and its staff and doctors!!! great job!!!

I related very well to Dr. Cunningham because he takes the time to listen to my concerns and problems, no matter how trivial-sounding or minor. Because they matter to me, they matter to him. He does not interrupt and then gives a thoughtful explanation or response that I can understand. He is always respectful and shares snippets of himself which humanizes him all the more and puts me at ease and that in turn allows me to share the things that need to be discussed. I feel like I know him slightly more as a human being rather than just "my oncologist."

[...] Dr. Cunningham is my primary care provider for my cancer problem. He is the best listener I have had. And I have nice non- medical conversations with him. He shows an interest in his client.

The doctor is OK but the waiting period to see him it was too much and the staff never even bother to apologize we wait over a hour and Dr only spend 15 minutes. To me that was ridiculous

The care I have received from Dr. Cunningham, and the entire staff at the Cancer Center has always been outstanding. Every person I have encountered and interacted with at the Center has had my health and wellbeing as their top priority. Going above and beyond is their norm. I am extremely thankful for the consistent, all around, complete care I have recieved since my first visit with Dr. Cunningham in the fall of 2011, and most grateful for the smooth coordination of my records and interaction with the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance for my stem cell transplant and follow up care.
