Medical Interests

In my longstanding commitment to clinical and translational research, I have led studies of novel agents (inhibition of PKC- beta and connective tissue growth factor) that were based on knowledge from experimental models of diabetic kidney disease (DKD).

Currently, I am the study-wide principal investigator (PI) for two clinical trials:

  1. Novel therapeutics (long-acting incretin mimetic, dulaglutide, compared to insulin) for glycemic control in people with DKD (including a validation study for HbA1c in this population) and;
  2. Janus kinase 1,2 inhibition for DKD. I have held national-level leadership roles for clinical trials funded by governmental agencies and the private sector.
