Philosophy of Care

My primary goal in patient care is to provide the highest quality, state-of-the-art care in the most compassionate way. My primary interest is in improving patient lives - not just in doing surgery to see if it works. I consider surgery in many cases to be the last option, and I will work with patients and other health providers to make sure the least aggressive, but most helpful approach is chosen. To that end, I exclusively perform minimally invasive surgery in almost every situation to minimize trauma to the patients and to minimize risks whenever surgery is needed.

Patient Ratings and Comments

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments. These comments are the views and opinions of patients and are not endorsed by or necessarily reflect the views of Providence.

Dr. Yam is very attuned to patient concerns and I felt I was important and not just a chart number. He explained my condition and the steps to correct the problem in easy detail and made sure I understood all the implications and the alternatives. I felt very secure and trusted him completely

It is frustrating to have to wait so long to get in to see this specific provider, but I guess if he is as good as most people feel he is, that would explain the scheduling backlog.

Dr. Yam was very focused on talking to & looking at me. I really appreciate NOT having to talk to the side of a person's head while they are operating a laptop!

The only thing was that I expected someone to call me after my release from the hospital for a followup and that never happened. Perhaps I misunderstood but it was told to us during spine class and I read it in the papers given to me. I did have a reaction to the narcotics, nausea & vomiting, and once I called Dr. Yam's office, they called in a new pain medication which solved the issues.

Each time I have come to your clinic I have been totally satisfied with everyone there. My only complaint would be that it takes 'so' long to get in to see Dr. Yam. Seems like there good be some way to not have to wait so long to get an appointment. When a person is in pain, we get concerned and worried and that seems to make matters worse. To see our Doc, puts our minds at ease and we want answers to our issues.

Dr. Yam took the time needed to answer questions. It was difficult to get in to see him, but in my case, worth the wait.

I had a choice of having x-rays taken at my home hospital, but decided to have x-rays taken at your hospital a couple hours before my appointment. Well the x-ray machine was not working at the time I was schedule for. I was told that I could go grab a bite to eat and come back, hopeful that the machine was fixed. So by the time I made it back it was working and I plenty of time to make my doctors appointment. Everyone was very understanding, and all worked out just fine.

Surgery performed by Dr.Yam was excellent and I am in the recovery period 1 year. He follows up very well and uses his P.A. […] very well. I am very satisfied by my care and recovery from surgery. I am aware that while my primary care Dr. […], WallaWallaClinic, has been kept in the loop even though the Clinic did not send the information and Xrays of my upper neck to Dr. Yam as I had requested and signed off on the request. Dr. Yam and his office people have been more than courteous considering the load they are carrying for this valley. I am 83 and have known more than one person under his care as well as others using the same group of Drs. for their serious back and neuro problems.

Office help wasn't the nicest to me or accommodating on appointments. My last visit they were the best. Had trouble with them cancelling my 3 mo. follow up and called them back they wanted to wait 5 months.
