Palliative Care, Hospice, and the Critical Care Unit

Course Description

Target Audience

This online education program is intended for in-patient and out-patient providers.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Summarize significant research addressing palliative care in intensive care units.
  • Describe the important role of the CCU team in providing palliative care and discuss when some patients/families in the CCU might benefit from specialty palliative care (a palliative care consult).
  • Introduce and explain to a family the role of the Palliative Care Consult Team in the CCU and in the hospital and explain how Palliative Care differs from Hospice.

This is a self-learning program that requires watching a video and answering questions related to the content. The learner must complete all answers accurately in order to successfully complete the course. The participant will then be directed to a website to log in for CME credit.
