What is digital mammography?
Digital mammography is a specific type of imaging in which electrical signals are used to produce images of the breast.
Mammograms are used as a screening tool to diagnose early signs of breast cancer in women experiencing symptoms and women not experiencing symptoms such as a lump or chest pain. Diagnostic mammography may also be done after an abnormal screening in order to determine the cause of the area of concern.
Before scheduling a mammogram, it is highly recommended that you speak with your doctor about any recent problems or abnormalities concerning your breasts. If possible, collect prior mammograms and make them available for your radiologist at the time of the current exam.
