Aetna Whole Health Plan Next Milestone in Population Health
Published December 8, 2014
The Providence/PacMed affiliation has allowed our organizations to use scale as we strive to transform the way health care is organized, paid for and delivered, particularly in the area of population health. A recently announced partnership with Aetna allows us to take another bold step toward that goal.
In late October, Aetna announced the launch of Aetna Whole HealthSM in Washington. This innovative new health plan gives members access to coordinated care in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties through a choice of four comprehensive and distinct networks, including one built around the PacMed and Providence-Swedish Health Alliance networks and Seattle Children’s Hospital. This product will be available for self-insured customers starting on Jan. 1, 2015, and for fully insured customers in early 2015.
Like our first accountable care product for Boeing, the Aetna Whole Health plan provides members with a better health care experience and outcomes with the inclusion of quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction measures, while helping employers manage health care costs.
Under the plan’s innovative new payment model, providers are rewarded for meeting quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction measures, all of which are a focus of our organization, including:
- Greater emphasis on recommended preventive care and screenings
- Better management of patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart failure
- Reductions in avoidable hospital readmission rates
- Reductions in emergency room visits
Aetna members who choose this product will have access to the quality and service that PacMed, Providence and Swedish are known for at an affordable cost. And as we continue to improve the way we deliver care, we expect service, quality and cost to continue to get better and better.
Our new offering with Aetna expands the value our organizations bring to our patients and communities, and supports strategic goals such as serving more patients and developing new responses to changing reimbursement models. The launch of Aetna Whole HealthSM
in Washington is a significant milestone in our efforts to partner with organizations who share our commitment to creating healthier communities.
