Over the weekend, Ira Byock, M.D., had an opinion piece in the New York Times. Dr. Byock, the chief medical officer of the Providence Institute for Human Caring, writes movingly about a friend who had to choose between palliative care and potentially life-extending care in his final months. The article obviously struck a chord with readers nationwide. Over the weekend, this was the most popular article on the Times’ website and had generated several hundred comments.
