July 6 Disaster Preparedness

Published July 6, 2015

As people of Providence our role is to care for the poor and vulnerable.  This includes our patients, families, and even each other. We understand the importance of quick and efficient responses to emergencies, but sometimes we’re so focused on what’s happening around us that we forget about how disasters can affect us and our families as well. That’s why it’s important to be as prepared as possible in advance of a potential disaster.

Fortunately, the American Red Cross has information on home preparedness that makes planning ahead easy.  On their website, you will find out how to prepare your home and family.  They even include checklists and other sections that highlight topics you may want to focus on.

Beginning this month, Providence’s emergency preparedness committee will provide information to help you continue with your readiness efforts.  After all, as caregivers, we need to be ready at a moment’s notice.

To get started, check out this helpful page on the Red Cross’s website. Pay close attention to the “Be Red Cross Ready Checklist” to evaluate your current level of readiness.
