PacMed Earns Distinction from Blue Cross Blue Shield for Patient-Centered, Value-Based Care
Published September 15, 2014
Providence affiliate, Pacific Medical Centers (PacMed), has been awarded the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) Blue Distinction Total Care designation, which recognizes innovative programs with success maintaining high quality, lower costs and high patient satisfaction. The recognition grew out of PacMed’s partnership with Premera Blue Cross, a regional payer (insurer) with 1.7 million members in Washington and Alaska.
PacMed’s reputation and successful track record for delivering value based care is one of the key reasons behind our affiliation. As Providence continues its journey toward population health, we have an opportunity to learn from PacMed and share best practice. The recognition from BCBSA is a great third party validation of PacMed’s innovative efforts. Congratulations to all our colleagues at PacMed.
PacMed will be identified on BCBSA’s National Doctor and Hospital Finder website as having earned the distinction, which can help increase visibility for and participation in PacMed’s value-based programs.
The following criteria were used to determine this year’s Blue Distinction Total Care designees:
- Success with a Value-based Reimbursement Model that pays participating hospitals and providers based on the quality – as opposed to volume – of care
- Accountability Across the Care Continuum, including coordinated member care that addresses the “whole patient” with preventative care options and care for chronic conditions
- Patient-Centered Quality Care that assigns responsibility to a principal provider or provider entity for cost and quality of care and patient access, while driving continuous improvements in quality and patient safety and satisfaction
- Provider Empowerment through access to analytics, data and/or tools that support management and optimization of care
The criteria are designed to ensure national alignment while taking advantage of customized local market delivery. BCBSA’s program becomes effective on January 1, 2015.
