Spokane Bone and Joint Center
The Bone and Joint Center at Sacred Heart Medical Center offers a specialized approach to your orthopedic surgery and care needs. With nearly 50 orthopedic doctors, surgeons and specialists, we can provide bone and joint care for patients young* and old, from Eastern Washington, North Idaho and Montana, for planned and unexpected orthopedic events.
Our 69-bed Spokane orthopedic hospital unit is staffed with registered nurses and nursing assistants with specialty training in all aspects of orthopedic care. A small number of our beds can be used for complicated ear, nose and throat, and reconstructive plastic surgery patients.
*Young orthopedic patients receive surgery and treatment from Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.
Our Orthopedic Procedures
The goal of surgery is to relieve pain, restore your independence and return you to work and other daily activities as soon as possible. The usual patient population diagnoses we treat at Sacred Heart include:
- Joint Replacement Surgery (knee, hip, shoulder and ankle); about 1,500 each year
- Orthopedic tumors (bone and soft tissue)
- Complicated wound care (such as muscle flaps, skin grafts)

- ACL Reconstruction
- Arthroscopic Repairs
- Hip Fracture Repair
- Rotator Cuff Repairs
- Total Shoulder Replacement
We offer pre-surgery hip and knee replacement classes, training for your support person, physical and occupational therapy and post-surgical support. Depending on your orthopedic surgery procedure, the usual length of your hospital stay can be as little as one to two days. Pharmacists are available to help with pain management. A Social Worker will help plan your discharge as soon as possible.
