Physiatrists

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (also known as Physiatry) is the medical specialty that helps people with physical and/or cognitive impairments regain function and enhance quality of life. A number of methods may be used to help reach these goals, including exercise and movement training, medications, and special equipment and devices.

Physicians who have completed training in this field are called physiatrists. Their training includes a focus on rehabilitating people with neurological conditions, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury and other disorders.

The Providence Regional Neuroscience Center offers the expertise of board-certified physiatrists, located in both Centralia and Lacey. These physicians are knowledgeable in the latest rehabilitation methods and are supported by expert staff such as physical and occupational therapists.
