Olympia Total Joint Center - Anticoagulation
In order to prevent blood clots after hip or knee replacement, a blood thinning medication known as an "anticoagulant" is prescribed. During your time on this medication, consistent monitoring of your blood is important to avoid complications, including stroke, blood clots and hemorrhaging.
As part of your post-surgical treatment, your surgeon may refer you to the Providence St. Peter Hospital Anticoagulation Clinic. This clinic is a full-time, outpatient facility staffed by doctors of pharmacy and advanced registered nurse practitioners. Based on your doctor's orders, your anticoagulation team will consult with you, arrange ongoing blood monitoring, and adjust your medication if necessary.
