Susan Tuller named executive director of Providence ElderPlace in Seattle

February 11, 2011

Seattle, WA (Feb. 11, 2011):  Susan Tuller has been named executive director of Providence ElderPlace.

Tuller has been with Providence Health & Services since 2003, when she became the administrator at the organization’s Vashon Community Care Center. Tuller previously held various positions with Group Health Cooperative.

Tuller graduated from Wesleyan University with a bachelor’s degree in Russian and Soviet Studies and received her master’s degree in health administration from the University of Washington in 1993.

With a mother who was a certified nursing assistant, Tuller grew up in nursing homes and around elders. “It was very much a part of our culture to be at the nursing home,” she said.

After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, Tuller became a high school teacher and in the summers worked at various nursing or senior-care facilities providing personal care for residents. Working at these facilities sparked Tuller’s interest in a career in the health-care field and prompted her to pursue a master’s degree in health administration.

After obtaining her master’s degree, Tuller worked at Group Health for more than a decade, where her positions included long-term care management.

Providence ElderPlace is an innovative program of health care and social services for older adults. The model of care is known as PACE (Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly). PACE programs keep older adults as healthy as possible in the community by providing comprehensive health care and social services including: primary and specialty medical care, a day health program, social work services, rehabilitation, housing (if necessary) and more.

Providence ElderPlace has centers on Martin Luther King Jr. Way South in South Seattle and at Providence Mount St. Vincent in West Seattle. Participants attend the Providence ElderPlace centers on a regular basis and transportation is provided. The ElderPlace team of health care and social service professionals and affiliates provide comprehensive integrated care to participants.
