Spokane, WA—On February 25, the Ninth Annual Kids at Heart Lunch, presented by Providence Health Care Foundation, Eastern Washington, netted more than $100,000 to support pediatric cardiac care at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.

“We are grateful to have such tremendous community support for Kids at Heart,” says Joyce M. Cameron, the Foundation's chief development officer. "The money raised at the lunch will allow us to purchase a new ventilator specifically for kids undergoing critical, life-saving heart surgeries.”

During the event three individuals and one organization received the Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital “Advocate of the Year” award. “These awards acknowledge those who share the Children’s Hospital’s vision of creating partnerships with the community to advocate for the good of children and families,” says Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital Director Tammy Powers.

The 2014 Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital Advocates of the Year are:

  • Deb Harper, MD - Group Health Cooperative
  • Toni Lodge, NATIVE Project/NATIVE Health Clinic
  • Betty Fry Williams, MD - Whitworth University
  • Washington Trust Bank

A new award, “The Peggy,” was presented to its namesake, retired Children’s Hospital Executive Director Peggy Mangiaracina. The award recognizes exceptional individuals who have given their time and talent to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.

The Providence Health Care Foundation funds equipment, education and other vital programs at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital and Holy Family Hospital. In 2013, the Foundation awarded over 400 grants totaling more than $3.1 million. These funds help care for the most vulnerable in our community and support breakthrough technology that saves lives.
