Spokane, WA—Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital will receive a $54,807 donation from Kohl’s Department Stores at 11 a.m. Friday, August 8 at the Ferris High School Football/Soccer Field during the Second Annual KSPS Fit Kids Day Event.

This Kohl’s Cares® grant will allow for the continuation of Kohl’s Health Smart Kids, a childhood obesity prevention program. Research and data collected by the Spokane Regional Health District, indicates obesity/diabetes is among the top four major health issues of youth in Spokane County.

“As the only Children’s Hospital in the region it’s important that we lead the way and inspire kids to get moving 60 minutes per day and to eat healthier. We are grateful for the ongoing support from Kohl’s for the continuation of the Kohl’s Health Smart Kids program,” said Tammy Powers, director of Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.

The Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital’s website – www.shmcchildren.org/kohls – features hundreds of free, fun, easy recipes, cooking tips and videos for healthier versions of foods that kids love to eat.

“Our long-term relationship with Kohl’s is a great partnership that enables us to invest in the health and well-being of the children in our community,” said Joyce Cameron, chief development officer for the Providence Health Care Foundation.

The KSPS Fit Kids Day Event on August 8 is a free community event from 10 a.m. to noon, (with a special Meet and Mingle for KSPS Members from 9 to 10 a.m.) at Ferris High School football field, located at 3020 E. 37th Ave. There will be parachute games, hula hoops, hoppers and beach balls, tunnels, jump ropes and bean bag toss targets, etc. Local Kohl’s team members will volunteer their time to assist with the event. Joining in on the fun will be “Stitch” the Trauma Bear, Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital Mascot, and several other mascots.

Since 2008, Kohl’s has donated nearly $319,000 to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.
