Former Walla Walla Clinic doctor chosen as next Providence St. Mary chief medical officer

Providence has chosen a former Walla Walla Clinic physician to be its next chief medical officer.

After an extensive search, Christopher Hall, MD was chosen for the position of chief medical officer for Providence St. Mary Medical Center. He will join Providence April 11.

A pediatrician, he practiced at the Walla Walla Clinic from 2001 to 2009. He served as medical director from 2006 to 2007, and was president of the Board of Directors from 2007 to 2009.

“With his experience of having practiced medicine in Walla Walla, his knowledge of the community, and years spent as a leader, he will be a great addition,” says Steve Burdick, southeast Washington regional chief executive. “We are very pleased to welcome him to Providence.”

Christopher Hall, MD, a Walla Walla pediatrician, is the new chief medical officer for Providence St. Mary Medical Center.Dr. Hall currently is the chief medical information officer for Mercy Health System of Maine, and a pediatric hospitalist. He received his medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland and is earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

“I am so pleased to be returning to work at Providence St. Mary Medical Center,” Dr. Hall stated. “I have always been impressed with the kind and caring staff, including physicians, nurses and other team members. I am very excited to further the important work they have done around patient experience, safety, and reliability.”

Dr. Hall will fill the CMO position vacated by Dr. Michael Bernstein, who left Walla Walla in July, 2015, to become the CMO for Acute and Continuum Services for Providence in California.

“My family, which has always considered Walla Walla as our hometown after the birth of our four children at St. Mary, is looking forward to returning to the family centric, picturesque valley that we will be fortunate to once again call home,” Dr. Hall says.

Providence St. Mary Medical Center, a 142-bed regional hospital located in Walla Walla, Wash., is the fourth largest employer in Walla Walla County. The Providence Medical Group is the largest group of primary care providers and specialists in the Walla Walla area.
