Providence nurses in Walla Walla will give free flu shots during this year's drive through flu shot clinic.

Walla Walla, WA—Providence will offer its annual free drive through adult flu shot clinic October 22 at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla from 9 a.m. to noon, or until the vaccine is gone.

People can be vaccinated without leaving their cars, and no appointments are necessary. Walk-ups also are accepted.

The clinic is sponsored by Providence St. Mary and the Providence Medical Group in cooperation with the Walla Walla County Department of Community Health as part of efforts to create healthier communities.

The free immunizations are available to adults age 19 and over. Although the clinic is open to all adults, Providence particularly would like to encourage people to come who are low income and do not have health insurance or are under-insured. The clinic also is ideal for people who might who have difficulty walking, since they will not need to leave their vehicles in order to get the shot.

No vaccine for children will be available at this clinic. To get immunizations for your children, please call your primary care physician or the Health Department.

The clinic will be held in the drive-through area beneath the Outpatient Procedure Center at Providence St. Mary on Seventh Avenue (view or download a map). To reach the clinic, take Fifth Avenue to Willow Street and circle around the back side of the hospital to Seventh so you can enter the south end of the drive through immunization area.

For those who miss the free clinic, flu shots also are available from the primary care doctors at Providence Medical Group, and are generally covered by insurance.

This will be the sixth year that Providence and the Health Department have teamed up to offer a one day free flu clinic. Flu season usually begins in October and can last through May. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends annual immunizations for adults to protect them from the flu.

Providence St. Mary Medical Center, a 142-bed regional hospital located in Walla Walla, Wash., is the fourth largest employer in Walla Walla County. The Providence Medical Group is the largest group of primary care providers and specialists in the Walla Walla area.
