Providence St. Mary Chief Nursing Officer Appointed by Governor to State Health Commission

Walla Walla, WA—Yvonne Strader, a registered nurse and the chief nursing officer for Providence St. Mary Medical Center, has been appointed by Governer Jay Inslee to the Washington State Department of Health Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission.

Her term begins this month and will extend through June 30, 2019.

The 15-member commission regulates the quality of nursing by enforcing licensing, setting standards of practice and establishing the methods that nurses use to maintain their competencies in the fast-paced environment of health care. The commission also investigates complaints against nurses.

“I am honored to have been selected to uphold the high quality of nurses in Washington State,” Strader says.

Strader has a deep background in quality and patient care. She been with Providence Health and Services since 2000. Before becoming the chief nursing officer at Providence St. Mary, she worked as the director of quality and case management for Providence in Yakima and Toppenish; manager of patient safety and director of medical staff services and quality at Providence Everett Medical Center; and the director of quality and risk management at Providence St. Mary.

She’s been a registered nurse for more than 25 years and has a bachelor’s degree in nursing and health care administration. She also has her master’s degree in health care administration with a concentration in Catholic Leadership from St. Joseph’s College of Maine.

Providence St. Mary Medical Center, a 142-bed regional hospital located in Walla Walla, Washington, is the fourth largest employer in Walla Walla County. The Providence Medical Group is the largest group of primary care providers and specialists in the Walla Walla area.
