About Sacred Heart

Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center is part of Providence Health Care, which includes five hospitals, multiple clinics, and employs more than 7,000 caregivers. It is the largest of these hospitals with 644 patient beds, and specialty adult & pediatric emergency rooms. Sacred Heart serves as a testing site for a national reference lab and performs more than 2.9 million tests annually. The Medical Center was recently recognized by the CDC and NETEC (National Ebola Training and Education Center) for its Special Pathogens Unit Lab.

The laboratory’s high volume of testing, as well as its extensive high-complexity and esoteric test menu, allows the School of Medical Laboratory Science to provide a wide range of experiences for students during the clinical year. Sacred Heart is a teaching facility, and as a result, students work with experienced and expert staff who are skilled in educational techniques.

The Providence Sacred Heart School of Medical Laboratory Science is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).
