Medical Laboratory Technician Program

Medical lab technician program in Providence Health and Services in Washinton.

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Program, sponsored through Wenatchee Valley College, is available in Spokane through collaborations with Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital, the Community Colleges of Spokane, Pathology Associates Medical Laboratory and the Inland Northwest Blood Center. Although this program is based in Central Washington, students are able to complete their formal education and training in Spokane.

Sacred Heart is only one of seven clinical sites for the MLT program. Other Sites include Wenatchee, Omak, Moses Lake, Pendleton, Walla Walla and Dayton. If you are not accepted for a Spokane student position, it is still possible for you to fill a vacant position at one of these other clinical sites.

Medical Laboratory Technician Program Quick Facts

  • Two-year program:
      1st year: Prerequisite course work
      2nd year: Clinical studies

  • Associate of Technical Science (ATS) degree awarded from Wenatchee Valley College.

  • Spokane region accepts four students per year.

  • Application and personal interview required prior to being selected for the 2nd year in Spokane.

Medical Laboratory Technician Job Outlook

According to the US Department of Labor, the job outlook for Medical Laboratory Technicians is excellent, with demand expected to grow by 15 percent between now and 2020. Opportunities for employment are in hospitals, reference laboratories, physician offices, educational settings, blood and organ banks, outpatient labs, scientific research and development, industry and other areas.

About Sacred Heart

Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital is the largest hospital in our region, with 644 patient beds and employing more than 4,000 health care professionals. Sacred Heart is a teaching facility, and as a result, students work with experienced and expert staff.
