Current Residency Project:Evaluation of prescribing patterns of critical care providers for ICU patients with the diagnosis of pneumonia at an acute care hospital.

Why I chose Providence: I chose to complete my residency with Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center because of the variety of acute care rotations that aligned with my career goals and the welcoming environment I experienced during my interview. It was apparent that pharmacists were seen as an integral part of the health care team and had direct impact on patient care. In addition, I felt the opportunity to obtain a teaching certificate through WSU College of Pharmacy would be a very rewarding experience. I believe that completing my residency at Sacred Heart will help me become a well-rounded clinical pharmacist and I am excited for the opportunities to come in this next year.

Current Residency Project: Evaluation of hypoglycemic events associated with anti-diabetic agents to identify potential pharmacist initiated interventions to reduce hypoglycemic events.

Why I chose Providence: I wanted to continue to learn and develop as a clinical pharmacist from a strong program with preceptors who are specialists in their areas of practice and truly care about the growth of residents. Providence offers a variety of diverse rotations in areas of interest to me, while developing my knowledge base in specialties in which I have less experience. Additionally, participation in pharmacist-managed collaborative drug therapy and opportunities to work on multidisciplinary teams was an important factor which attracted me to the program. Lastly Sacred Heart offers the opportunity to live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

It’s clear that the pharmacy department is progressive at Sacred Heart. The rotations offered in the residency were exciting to me, including critical care, pediatrics and transplant. Additionally, from the instant I met with the residents at Midyear at Sacred Heart, I felt welcomed. I could tell that pharmacists at Sacred Heart encourage a positive atmosphere for learning, which I have also experienced in residency. Continuing my pharmacy education at Sacred Heart has been the perfect experience to help me develop into a well-rounded clinician!
