Providence Integrative Cancer is managed by medical director Evan Hirsch, M.D. Advisory Council members include experts from a variety of cancer-related professions.
Medical Director: Evan Hirsch. M.D., ABHM
Evan completed his residency in Family Medicine from Providence St. Peter Family Practice in June 2007. He is board certified as a Holistic Medicine Doctor. Evan is trained as a yoga teacher and in medical acupuncture as well. He opened a Holistic Family Practice in September of 2007 in Olympia.

Karen M. Buckley, LICSW, ACSW, OSW-C
Karen earned her Masters in Social Work from UCLA and a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of New Hampshire. She holds an advanced certification in Oncology Social Work. Today, Karen works for Providence St. Peter Hospital. She provides counseling to those facing cancer. Karen also has a private practice in Olympia. Her practice services clients with mental health challenges, diversity issues and adoption. Karen brings a nice connection to the board between working with medical institutions, the community, clients and their loved ones. Karen hopes the services at Providence Integrative Care empower patients to utilize a full spectrum of resources to heal.
Lani Fullerton R.T.(T) CMD
Lani is the operations administrator for RadiantCare Radiation Oncology. She has enjoyed working with cancer patients in the South Sound region for more than 18 years.
Mara Gunn, R.N.
Mara is clinical supervisor at RadiantCare Radiation Oncology. She has 28 years of oncology experience in all aspects of cancer care. Mara is very committed to promoting care of the whole person.
James J. Lechner, M.D.
James Lechner is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine. His oncology and hematology training was completed at the Oregon Health Sciences University. Dr. Lechner is board certified in medical oncology as well as internal medicine. He also participates in clinical trials in medical oncology. Dr. Lechner is the Medical Director of the Providence Regional Cancer System. He has been on the front lines working to promote comprehensive cancer care through the formation of the Providence Integrative Cancer Care program since its inception.
Haleigh Werner, M.D.
Dr. Werner is on staff at RadiantCare Radiation Oncology. She thoroughly enjoys working and visiting with patients and their families. “I hope to bring my excitement and interest in integrative medicine to the council and hope patients can and will receive excellent medical care through the use of western medicine and complementary care,” says Dr. Haleigh Werner.
Cobie Whitten, PhD
Cobie Whitten, PhD, has a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a Psycho-Oncology Consultant for the Providence Regional Cancer System. She co-chairs the Survivorship, Palliative Care and End-of-Life Issues Taskforce of Washington CARES About Cancer. She is also a Cancer Retreat Facilitator at Harmony Hill. Previously, Dr. Whitten worked for the Washington State Department of Health in the Breast & Cervical Health Program and has taught at Saint Martin's University. Her passion is creating survivorship services for cancer patients and their families at all points along the cancer continuum.
Jana Wiley, L.Ac, R.N., BSN, MPA, OCN
Jana is a local Olympia acupuncturist in private practice. Her 17 years of clinical acupuncture work has been with immune system deficiencies, oncology and pain management. In addition, Jana has been a nurse for more than 26 years, with a strong background in cardiology, nursing management and administration. She appreciates the opportunity to support the integration of new approaches into the treatment protocols faced by people going through cancer.
