Social Media Guidelines

Providence believes in the importance of utilizing new technologies that open communication and build community and brand awareness within the communities we serve, and respects the right of employees to use social media tools during their personal time. While living in the Information Age provides our society with many benefits, it also presents challenges in protecting health information. The burgeoning use of social media such as Facebook, MySpace and other popular sites enables us to communicate with far wider audiences, yet it also enables the rapid dissemination of private information on the Internet once posted.

It is also important that the official use of social media tools is properly managed so we can ensure the Providence brand and reputation is maintained over time, as again, Internet content is easily transmitted and lives forever on the Web. For these reasons, the following guidelines have been created to help people of Providence understand how our policies apply to these communication technologies and how you can participate with confidence, both personally and professionally, on all social media platforms. These guidelines support the Providence Health & Services Policy on Social Networking.
