Respect Patient Privacy- Even When They are Your Family, Co-Workers or Self

Published February 2, 2015

Part of our job to care for those in our community involves keeping their information safe and confidential. In order to ensure this promise to our patients, Providence monitors access to electronic health records and investigates all suspicious activities. Caregivers should only access patient information when providing care.

It is considered inappropriate to open any of the following files, if not authorized to do so for care purposes:

  • Caregivers’ own records
  • Family members
  • Friends
  • Neighbors
  • Work colleagues
  • VIPs

Inappropriate access to patient information and violation of Providence privacy and security policies may result in progressive corrective action up to and including termination.

If you have any questions or concerns around privacy and compliance, please contact our Compliance and Privacy Manager, Theresa Bervell, by email or phone:  425-261-4538. Or you may email PrivacyOfficer-NW@providence.org.
