Caregivers needed for surgical mission trip to Guatemala

Published September 28, 2015

Providence is once again partnering with Faith in Practice for a week-long surgical mission to Guatemala from May 6-14, 2016. We are seeking volunteers to build a team of GYN and general surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, clinical pharmacists, operating room staff as well as a photo-journalist and Spanish language translators. The ideal team member would be someone who is committed, flexible, and adaptable under challenging circumstances, and someone who is comfortable working with a diverse team on which all members are considered valuable peers.

Our trip requires an extensive amount of advance planning to ensure that we secure the team members we need to deliver the care for our Guatemalan patients. We would like to have all prospective volunteers apply by or before October 2. Although time spent on the trip will not be compensated, more than half of the travel and in-country fees are funded by Providence. Volunteers will be required to use their own time (paid time off) and contribute $800 to trip expenses (flight, room & board, food, etc.). A limited number of scholarships are available to individuals for whom this contribution would be a financial hardship.

Volunteers are required to attend three informational and preparatory meetings leading up to the trip:

  • Thursday, October 15, 5:30-7:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, January 10, 3-4:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 24th, 5:30-7 p.m.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please fill out the 2016 Guatemala Surgical Application and submit it by Oct. 2. For more information, please contact Manjula.Prasad@providence.org.
