Family Support Services

Being in the hospital can make children feel scared, confused and out of control.

At Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, we believe in providing support for the entire family. From social workers to music and art therapists, child life specialists and volunteers, to amenities like playrooms and lounges, we offer a family-centered, team approach to helping families return to a normal life as soon as possible.

Child Life Specialists

Our child life specialists coordinate activities to make your child’s hospital experience as comfortable and understandable as possible. They offer support for siblings who might be concerned about their brother or sister in our care or who may have fears of visiting the hospital. Children’s Clubhouse

A fun place for kids to play while a family member receives care at Sacred Heart. To play in the clubhouse, kids need to be healthy, at least 3½ years old and potty trained. Open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m., the Children’s Clubhouse is located in the upper level of the Children's Emergency Department. Enter from Emergency, or the Main Floor "Bridge of Hope," just east of the Fish Elevators. Take a Virtual Tour of the Children's Hospital Clubhouse

Lounge Areas

Certain units offer patient and family lounge areas, as well as playrooms for younger kids, a teen lounge for the older ones and the outdoor terrace has the best view of downtown Spokane from the hospital.

Movies and Games

We have DVD movies available for check out on some units. Just ask at the nurse’s station on your child’s floor. There are VCR movies in the playroom. Occasionally, we offer movies and Wii games in our theater-style classroom on the fourth floor.

Overnight Accommodations

Our rooms are designed for a family member to stay with their child. If you have special circumstances that require additional family to be at the bedside, please consult with our nursing team and we’ll identify alternate resources for you.
