Spokane Primary Stroke Program
When Every Minute Counts
When a stroke happens, every minute counts. Our team utilizes their expertise, technology and collective collaboration to deliver fast and thorough treatment for stroke patients in the Spokane and the Inland Northwest.
Collaboration begins when you call 911 when you experience stroke symptoms. Fast response provides timely treatment that gives the best chance for recovery and quality of life after a stroke.
Since 2003, Sacred Heart has been recognized for its stroke care program when the Medical Center received the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission for its Primary Stroke Program.
The American Heart Association's (AHA) “Target: Stroke Honor Roll-Elite Plus-Gold” recognition demonstrates our commitment to provide excellent stroke care. This recognition is for hospitals that treat stroke patients with IV Alteplase—the clot busting medication—within 60 minutes of arriving at the hospital at least 75 percent of time, and at least 50 percent or higher compliance rate to deliver the treatment in less than 45 minutes; quality measures that ensure you are receiving quality care.
We are moving forward to bring you the most outstanding care. In 2016, more than 800 patients were treated for stroke at Sacred Heart Medical Center. Of those treated with IV Alteplase, more than 90 percent received the clot-busting medication in less than 60 minutes; 70 percent or more received it within 45 minutes, because time is brain that survives. The quicker we can assess and treat the clot, the better your chances are at having meaningful recovery.
