The da Vinci® Surgical System

Surgeons at Providence St. Peter Hospital have another minimally invasive surgery option, thanks to the state-of-the-art da Vinci® Surgical System. Da Vinci® allows surgeons to operate with unmatched control and precision, using incisions roughly the width of a dime. In turn, smaller incisions help decrease scarring, post-surgical pain, complications and recovery time. We are the first to offer this technology in Southwest Washington.

Providence doctors are trained to perform da Vinci® robotic-assisted surgery for a range of procedures related to gynecology, gynecological oncology, and urology including:

Gynecology/Gynecologic Oncology

  • Hysterectomy
  • Ovarian Cystectomy
  • Myomectomy
  • Oophorectomy
  • Endometriosis

How da Vinci® Robotic-Assisted Surgery Works

The surgeon sits at a console, viewing a 3D image of the surgical field. As the surgeon operates the controllers, the robotic instruments mimic the movements of his hands, wrists and fingers in real time. Operating in tandem with a robot allows surgeons to perform delicate, complex procedures without the trauma associated with large incisions, which is an incredible advantage for patients.
