At Centralia General Surgery, we’re committed to providing excellent surgical care no matter if you have an inpatient or outpatient procedure, are being treated in an emergency, or are having an operation you’ve considered for months. Our surgeons use state-of-the-art surgical techniques, including minimally invasive surgeries which mean smaller incisions and faster recovery times than traditional surgeries.

We want you and your loved ones to be as comfortable as possible, so we go over each procedure in detail, talk about your concerns and do everything we can to put your mind at ease.

Your care team

Several people in addition to your surgeon will likely take part in your care in the operating room. They include an anesthesiologist, certified nurse anesthetist and physician assistant. Nurses and a surgical technologist may assist with your surgery as well.

After surgery, a nurse will monitor you in our post-anesthesia unit until you are moved to a patient room or discharged to go home.

We provide full instructions for home care once you’re discharged. We also provide contact information if you have questions or concerns. Physical or occupational therapists, respiratory therapists and a medical social worker may be part of your post-surgery care team.

Our surgeons perform all types of general surgery. They’re available around the clock, seven days a week. Whether you have a planned surgery or an emergency condition that needs immediate treatment, we’re ready to help.

Conditions we commonly treat include:

  • Appendicitis
  • Breast conditions
  • Cancer
  • Gallbladder diseases
  • Gastrointestinal and reflux diseases
  • Heartburn
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Hernia
  • Skin lesions
  • Thyroid diseases

We also have surgeons who perform more specialized surgery, such as operations on the heart, chest and lungs.

Your pre-surgery consultation

For planned surgeries, one of our nurses will contact you before surgery. The nurse will explain your operation, tell you what to expect and talk about the precautions we take to keep you safe. If there are instructions for you to follow, the nurse may provide them at this time.

The call will be most helpful to you if you gather the following before your pre-surgery consultation call:

  • A list of allergies and current medications
  • A list of questions you have about your surgery
  • Your medical and surgical history
  • Other relevant information, such as previous anesthesia complications
If you have outpatient surgery

If you’re having outpatient surgery, please have someone to drive you home as you won’t be allowed to drive yourself. It’s also important to have someone available to help you at home for 24 hours after your surgery.

When to alert your surgeon

It’s important to alert your surgeon before your surgery date if any of the following are true:

  • You take aspirin, anti-inflammatory medication, herbal supplements or blood thinners. (You may need to stop taking them temporarily before your surgery.)
  • You have an unexpected medical problem, such as a fever, cold, cough or flu. We may have to reschedule your surgery.
  • You have diabetes. Your surgeon will give you specific instructions on what to do on the day of your surgery.
Before you’re admitted

Please don’t shave any areas of your body associated with your procedure before we admit you. We’ll take care of that just prior to surgery.
