Conditions We Treat

Our specialists provide expert care for patients with both cancerous and non-cancerous conditions of the liver, pancreas, bile duct and gallbladder.

Liver conditions may range from non-cancerous conditions, such as cysts, to cancer. Liver cancer (hepatocellular cancer) is a type of gastrointestinal cancer that can form anywhere in the liver. Liver cancer that has spread to the liver from other parts of the body is called secondary liver cancer. Our specialists treat the following liver conditions:

  • Viral infections such as Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C
  • Cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver
  • Genetic conditions such as hemochromatosis
  • Non-cancerous (benign) liver cysts and tumors
  • Primary liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma)
  • Secondary liver cancer (when another cancer metastases to the liver)
  • Liver failure

Pancreas conditions may range from inflammatory conditions, such as chronic pancreatitis, to cancer. Pancreatic cancer is a gastrointestinal cancer that forms in the pancreas, the organ behind the stomach that helps with digestion and blood sugar regulation. Our specialists treat the following pancreas conditions:

  • Chronic and acute pancreatitis
  • Pancreatic pseudocysts
  • Pancreatic neuroendocrine (islet cell) tumors
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Ampullary cancer

Bile duct conditions may range from autoimmune diseases, such as primary biliary cirrhosis, to cancer. Bile duct cancer begins in the bile ducts within the liver. The bile ducts carry digestive fluid and connect the liver to the small intestine and gall bladder. Our specialists treat the following bile duct conditions:

  • Gallstones (cholelithiasis)
  • Primary biliary cirrhosis
  • Primary sclerosing cholangitis
  • Choledochal cysts
  • Bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma)
  • Gallbladder cancer

Meet the Team

Why Choose Us for Your Liver and Pancreas Care?

As our patient, you have access to the best specialists and a full range of support services for you and your loved ones. We also minimize the time between your diagnosis and treatment with coordinated, whole-person care that always puts you first.

The earlier you’re diagnosed, the sooner you can begin treatment and the better your outcomes will be. With our system-wide coordinated care, you’ll be diagnosed quickly and can begin treatment more quickly. We coordinate care between your primary care provider and your specialists, so you won’t wait long to see your doctors.

Our care is always highly personalized, and your treatment plan will fit your personal needs. Our full spectrum of care includes support services, such as dietitians, counselors and chaplains. Your care team also receives input from multidisciplinary tumor boards, where regional experts from across the Inland Northwest discuss patient cases and make sure you’re getting the best treatment.

We take a team-based approach to your care. Your multidisciplinary team may include oncologists, surgeons and specialists in advanced gastroenterology, interventional radiology, hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery, endoscopy and hepatology. In fact, we have the only hepatologist group between Seattle and Minneapolis. Our surgical team also staffs the only two transplant hepatologists in the region. And we’re among a limited number of hospitals in the United States with multi-organ transplant capabilities.

We were the first clinic in Spokane to offer specialized liver and pancreatic care, and we’re the biggest digestive health program in the region. The impact of our experience speaks for itself: Our patient outcomes meet or exceed national outcomes.

At Providence Liver and Pancreas Center, we are deeply committed to making sure every patient we treat has access to the best care. Our dedicated clinicians travel to rural communities or use telehealth to follow up with their patients. With our outreach locations in Moses Lake, TriCities, Clarkston and Missoula, patients can receive follow-up care closer to home.

We value, respect and support the racial, ethnic, religious, spiritual, gender and sexual identities of each member of our diverse communities. In keeping with our Mission, Providence offers financial assistance programs that provide free and low-cost care to those who are eligible.

We are part of the Providence Regional Cancer Center, which features world-class oncologists in six hospitals and medical centers, along with nearly 20 specialty clinics. When you become a patient, you also have access to the largest community-based cancer network in the United States. This means that your local care team shares knowledge and experience with other experts across 51 hospitals in seven states. The power of our network is one of the reasons hundreds of new patients choose Providence Liver and Pancreas Center for their care each year.
