Through the eyes of a child or their parent, life isn’t easy when surgery is on the schedule. Whether it’s an outpatient or hospital procedure, surgery can cause worries and detours from familiar routines. At Providence Pediatric Surgery Center, we understand your concerns and go to great lengths to put your mind and your child at ease.

We provide advanced pediatric care that’s close to home with a wide range of services all under one roof. Our team includes pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses, child life specialists and others who enjoy caring for our youngest patients.

Providence pediatric surgeons treat a wide variety of injuries and illnesses across medical specialties and subspecialties.

We diagnose and treat these and many other conditions:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Appendicitis
  • Birth defects
  • Brain, spine and back conditions
  • Burns
  • Colorectal disease and disorders
  • Foreign bodies in airway and esophagus
  • Gall stones and gall bladder disease
  • Gastric reflux disease
  • Head, neck and chest conditions
  • Heart and vascular disease
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Lipomas
  • Liver disease
  • Lung disease
  • Nervous system diseases and disorders
  • Orthopedic diseases and disorders

At the Providence Pediatric Surgery Center we treat children from infancy through age 18. Our surgeons provide high-level surgical and nonsurgical therapies, including emergency surgery for traumatic injury.

Kids and families come here for help with a wide array of conditions that require diagnostic, medical and surgical services, including:

  • Elective procedures
  • Head, neck and chest surgery
  • Infectious disease management
  • Minimally-invasive surgery
  • Pediatric anesthesia
  • Pediatric burn care
  • Specialty and subspecialty surgery for a full range of acute or chronic heart, lung, brain, spine and other injuries and illnesses

Surgery can cause fear and uncertainty in anyone, but it’s especially overwhelming for kids. Our Pediatric Surgery Center has a dedicated pre-surgery preparation room to help ensure that your child feels comfortable.

A child life specialist takes extra time to talk with and guide your family. Your child becomes familiar with everything from surgical scrubs and hats to anesthesia masks and pre-surgery processes, so they know what to expect.

This special area offers extra touches, from an exclusive, kid-sized entry door to a fun-and-games playroom as big as your child’s imagination.

Before surgery, your child’s pediatric anesthesiologist and pediatric surgeon will talk with you and answer any questions you may have. Other specialists will help to comfort and guide your child or assist you and your family.

After surgery, recovery nurses encourage you to be there when your child wakes up and may still feel sleepy or disoriented. Your child will feel comforted knowing you’re close.

A Child’s Perspective
