Current Residency Project: Evaluation of the role of IV Vitamin C, thiamine and hydrocortisone in treatment of sepsis.

Why I chose Providence: I chose Providence Sacred Heart because the core and elective rotations offered by this program closely align with my interests in critical care and emergency medicine. As a Level II Trauma Center, this hospital offers a myriad of high acuity patients and the complex clinical cases that follow them. These patient presentations continuously challenge my pharmacy practice and critical thinking skills—ultimately providing an environment conducive to the advancement of my clinical knowledge. While there are many challenges that accompany the pursuit of an intensive residency program, I feel reassured by the supportive preceptors at Sacred Heart Medical Center who are truly invested in the personal and professional development of the residents. The opportunities for growth, emphasis on patient care and positive working culture here have made my experience as a part of this program unforgettable thus far.

Professional Interests: Emergency medicine, critical care and cardiology.

Personal Interests: Tennis, playing board games, reading horror stories, cooking new recipes, traveling to foreign places and spending time with family and friends.

Current Residency Project: Evaluation of antibiotic use for early onset sepsis in neonates (34 weeks of age and older), with focus on shortening duration of antibiotics.

Why I chose Providence: I chose Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center for the variety of clinical services, the Children’s Hospital and the teaching atmosphere that align with my career goals. The atmosphere of Sacred Heart was appealing to me—particularly working as part of an interdisciplinary team that truly values pharmacy input. However, the people and core values instilled within the Medical Center are what make this hospital truly special. The program’s commitment to their residents has made my experience here amazing and I know that by training at Sacred Heart, I will finish the program as a confident and knowledgeable pharmacist.

Professional Interests: Transplant, pediatrics and infectious disease.

Personal Interests: Spending time with family and friends, hiking and finding great places to eat!

Current Residency Project: Evaluation and implementation of a treatment algorithm for use of rescue therapies in adult and pediatric oncology.

Why I chose Providence:I chose Providence Sacred Heart because of their dedication to compassionate, patient-centered care and for the variety of acute care rotations and learning opportunities available. I knew the challenging, yet supportive environment the Medical Center offers would help me achieve my goal of becoming a confident, competent clinical pharmacist. I am excited and grateful to have the opportunity to learn from and work alongside amazing pharmacists and other health care professionals.

Current Residency Project: Optimization of antibiotics utilization in the Emergency Department, with focus to decrease the use of fluoroquinolones.

Why I chose Providence: I chose Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center for residency because of the wide variety of challenging acute care rotations that this program offers. As someone who has not yet decided on a particular specialty, I was looking for a program that could provide me with a solid foundation in nearly every clinical area, and this made Sacred Heart a perfect choice. In addition to the rotations offered, Providence also stood out to me as a program that truly values their residents and graciously welcomes them to the pharmacy team.

Professional Interests: Cardiology, infectious disease and critical care.

Personal Interests: Spending time with family and friends; outdoor activities in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Current Residency Project: Evaluation of appropriateness and optimization of inpatient rituximab orders.

Why I chose Providence: Providence Sacred Heart has a welcoming atmosphere and wide variety of specialty experiences that align with my career goals. Pharmacy has a strong presence within Sacred Heart, and offers care for pediatric and adult patients. I am fortunate to be a part of an excellent program that cares for its patients and residents.

Professional Interests: Oncology, ambulatory care and academia.

Personal Interests: Lacrosse, binge-watching Netflix and playing Zelda.

Current Residency Project: Optimization of the Inpatient Medication Reconciliation Service.

Why I chose Providence::I chose Providence Sacred Heart because I knew this environment would provide me with a solid foundation to care for a broad range of patients. The degree of services and level of acuity creates a phenomenal learning environment that offered me the challenge I was looking for in a residency. I’ve had the chance to work alongside wonderful caregivers who strive to live-out the mission of providing compassionate care to their patients. These attributes will shape me into a well-rounded pharmacist, as well as allow me to succeed in whichever practice area my interests lead me.
