Frequently Asked Questions
Spokane Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program
Do I have to do my Transitional Internship at Sacred Heart or can I do a preliminary year at another institution?
Yes, all our radiology positions are categorical positions, contracted through the NRMP match. These positions include the
Transitional Year Program
. Thus, if you match with our program, you will be coming to Spokane for a total of five years. If you were to do a preliminary year elsewhere, not only would the upcoming position be filled by a current resident completing his or her Transitional Year, but you will have already used your funding for the preliminary year.
How many positions do you take per year?
We accept two NRMP match positions each year.
What are some requirements of the resident once he or she matches with your program?
Residents give interactive presentations during Teaching Afternoon on Thursdays; participate in morning rounds; journal clubs; tumor board conferences; and give presentations to other residents in the Providence system; they also complete scholarly activities.
Are your residents accepted into fellowships after residency? Do they find good jobs?
Yes, we have high placement of our residents into the
they desire. There is administrative help available to the residents as they begin the application process. This is also true for employment opportunities. You might wish to visit our Alumni page to see the programs and job opportunities some of our recent residents have chosen.
Do you offer Clerkships?
We offer radiology elective clerkships to fourth-year medical students. You will need to contact the radiology residency program coordinator prior to applying for a clerkship to see if there are open rotation slots available. Clerkship slots are given to students from medical schools who are affiliated with Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center first. If there are any remaining slots available, they will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
Does your program accept COMLEX Board scores in lieu of USMLE Board scores for osteopathic students?
No, we require USMLE scores from all students applying to our program.
