The purpose of Providence St. Peter Hospital’s Medical Staff Assistance Committee (MSAC) is to support the health and wellness of our Medical Staff members, and in so doing, protect patient welfare, improve patient care, and improve Medical Staff functioning.
MSAC works to achieve this purpose through a supportive, non-punitive process for identifying, referring for treatment, and monitoring Medical Staff members who may be suffering from impairment resulting from drug or alcohol use or other disabling psychiatric or physical conditions that pose a threat to acceptable professional functioning and patient care. MSAC also supports Medical Staff members who are involved with the Washington Physician Health Program regarding impairment issues.
The success of this program depends on the cooperation of the individual being assisted. Confidentiality will be maintained in all discussions and with all documentation and records. In all instances, the goal of the Committee is to support the individual in his/her recovery.
Referrals may be initiated by a Medical Staff member seeking assistance, or by any other person having a concern about a Medical Staff member. Please contact the Medical Staff Office (360-493-7360) during regular business hours. After hours, the MSAC Call Schedule is available from the Admin Supervisor at 360-493-7328 / 360-971-4797 (Pager) / 486-6131 (In-house Spectralink).

WPHP is an independent, nonprofit organization that was established in 1986. They are a physician-led program with an experienced staff dedicated to helping healthcare professionals while promoting patient safety.
Referrals to WPHP protect the lives of healthcare professionals and the patients they serve. While the decision to make a referral can be both intellectually and emotionally challenging, referring a peer, colleague, spouse, friend, or even yourself is a courageous act of compassion and concern.
