Sacred Heart Named Top Transplant Center
March 01, 2012
Spokane, WA—HealthGrades, the leading provider of comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals nationwide, has announced Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center as one of three recipients of its Heart Transplant Excellence Award. Nearly 120 hospital transplant programs were evaluated, with attention given to patient survival rates and other clinical quality data.
“More than 112,000 patients are on a waiting list for an organ transplant in the U.S. and it is imperative that patients have a resource to compare programs across the country,” said Kristin Reed of HealthGrades. The company’s data is calculated by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients and available to the public at HealthGrades.com.
Timothy Icenogle, MD, director of the Heart Transplant program at Sacred Heart, says he and his partner, David Sandler, MD, are able to use hearts other programs have declined because of their many years in transplantation. Patients here have consistently had survival rates out-ranking national averages, too.
