Providence breaks ground for Medical Park in Spokane Valley

September 04, 2012
Located conveniently in the Spokane, WA Valley off Interstate 90 east of Sullivan and Indiana, the new Providence Medical Pak will house two connected buildings: one for physician offices and another for diagnostic and treatment services.

Spokane Valley, WA—Providence Health Care, parent of Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital, Holy Family Hospital, and Providence Medical Group – Eastern Washington, breaks ground today for a new outpatient facility in Spokane Valley. Located conveniently off Interstate 90 east of Sullivan and Indiana, the $44 million, 11 acre property on the north side of the freeway will house two connected buildings: one for physician offices and another for diagnostic and treatment services.

“We are very excited to be expanding Providence services into Spokane Valley to provide quality, compassionate care to more residents of this growing area,” says Michael Wilson, chief executive of Providence Health Care. “It is an extension of our vision to make Providence services more convenient, accessible and affordable for residents of Spokane Valley—ensuring patients have access to the right level of care in the right settings.”

One-stop Health Care

Located conveniently off Interstate 90 east of Sullivan and Indiana, Providence Medical Park will offer one-stop health care in a convenient and accessible setting, with the same great quality of care people have come to expect of Providence, including:

• Urgent Care
• Family Medicine
• Laboratory and Pharmacy
• Medical and Surgical specialist consults
• Imaging services, including X-ray,
  ultrasound, CT scans and more.
• Short-stay observation (12-24 hours),
  preventing unnecessary hospital stays.
• Community gathering areas for reflection
  and family support.

Providence Medical Park-Spokane Valley will include a two-story facility featuring convenient access to urgent care, a wide array of imaging services, and an outpatient surgery center. The adjacent three-story building holds offices for primary care and specialty physician services such as orthopedics and cardiology. An on-site pharmacy and lab complete the setting, where patients will benefit from a “one-stop” approach to meeting their health care needs.

“This is the direction health care is moving,” explains Wilson. “Whereas the hospital has been the center of the medical system in the past, comprehensive outpatient centers are the way of the future, focusing on convenience and affordability.”

An outpatient facility with all the components included in Providence Medical Park not only helps to reduce the waiting times patients experience, but also helps to decrease costs. Patients are able to see a primary care physician, have diagnostic tests, pick up a prescription, and connect with a specialist if necessary, in the same day, reducing the number of visits. Also, surgeries in an ambulatory (outpatient) facility cost much less than the same surgeries performed within the setting of an acute (inpatient) care hospital.

Providence Medical Park will also feature greater coordination between caregivers. Within Providence Medical Group – now Spokane’s largest group of primary care and specialty physicians – doctors focus on working together to streamline the patient experience.

“The connectedness of our physicians and services offers improved communication and diagnoses, helping patients achieve better outcomes,” Wilson says.

Providence Medical Park – Spokane Valley, located at 16528 E. Desmet Court, is expected to be open for business in the spring of 2014. Throughout the construction process, approximately 300-400 local workers will be employed, earning a collective income of $17.5 million. The total economic impact for the community is expected to be $87.5 million.
