October 28, 2013

Sixteen Washington state hospitals - including Providence Mount Carmel Hospital in Colville and Providence Centralia Hospital - were recently recognized for outstanding efforts to reduce patient harm and improve patient safety during the 81st Annual Meeting of the Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA), October 16 in Seattle.

The 2013 “Safe Care in Action” award was presented to hospitals participating in the Partnership for Patients initiative that achieved a 40% reduction in harm or were in the top 10 percentile for six or more measures or for 80% of eligible measures in the 10 key areas.

“The Partnership for Patients contract has enabled us to make impressive improvements in patient safety in all the participating hospitals,” said WSHA Senior Vice President for Patient Safety Carol Wagner. “Through extensive education, best-practice implementation, and rapid response to problems, the hospitals doing this work are helping to test and model the best ways to keep patients safe in the hospital. It benefits their patients, but it also benefits all patients.”

Award winners were presented with a plaque at the opening session of the annual meeting.
