Pediatric Palliative Care

Also known as: Sunflower Program, Stepping Stones, Pediatric Hospice

There’s nothing more difficult than having a child with a life-threatening illness. Your child and family need special support and care through this difficult time. Providence’s pediatric palliative care teams serve infants, children, adolescents and families during this journey with gentle, compassionate, medical, emotional and spiritual support.

At Providence, every child with a potentially life-limiting condition and his/her family receive coordinated care to support their choices and opportunities for optimum quality of life. Our specialists identify patients who would benefit from palliative care support and facilitate family conferences to develop a personalized care plan for use in both hospital and hospice.

We also work with patients and families to determine resources – within the hospital and the region – to provide all elements of care and support. We involve all members of the medical care team in developing the best plan for patient and family.

The pediatric palliative care team includes:

  • Patient’s physician
  • Case worker
  • Social worker
  • Chaplain
  • Primary nurse
  • Child life specialist
  • Physical therapist
  • Hospice
