Cynthia Hamby, M.Ed., MLS(ASCP)CM
Education: M.Ed. in Health Occupations Education; BS in Medical Technology – Georgia State University.
Experience: More than 30 years of experience in MLS, MLT, and Phlebotomy training programs, and overseeing employee continuing education.
Interests: Golfing, travelling and reading a great novel on a sunny beach.
Watching our students succeed in a profession they love and fulfilling the needs of our workforce are most gratifying to me. I enjoy being a mentor to students and instructors, helping them to develop their professional traits.
Clinical Instructor, Clinical Chemistry
Mary Tyllia, MLS(ASCP)CM
Education: BS, Medical Technology, Gonzaga University; Graduate of Sacred Heart School of Medical Technology.
Experience: More than 35 years of experience, mainly in Clinical Chemistry and Urinalysis.
Interests: Reading, sewing and cooking good food.
I love this profession, and I really enjoy facilitating the learning of others in this field. I strive to make use of creative teaching strategies to accomplish this.
Clinical Instructor, Hematology
Beth Payne, MT(ASCP), SH(ASCP)CM
Education: BS Biology, Gonzaga University; Graduate of Sacred Heart School of Medical Technology.
Experience: More than 30 years experience, mainly in Hematology.
Interests: Following my children’s sports activities, baking.
I felt a connection to Hematology from the first day of my training. The blood cells can really tell the story of a person’s health if you know how to read them correctly.
Clinical Instructor, Microbiology
Tim Burke, MLS(ASCP)CM
Education: BS Biology, Minor in Chemistry Eastern Washington University; AA Degree Spokane Falls Community College; Graduate of Sacred Heart School of Medical Technology.
Experience: More than 15 years in the Microbiology department working at all of the various technical benches.
Interests: Being involved with my children’s sports and school activities; listening to various music genres and riding motorcycles.
I really enjoy working with the students. Every year they think I am challenging them to become better in Microbiology but they are also challenging me to become a better instructor. Students ask the best questions which often leads to new ways of teaching or explaining a subject.
Education: AS Mt. San Antonio
Experience: More than 25 years as a Phlebotomy Instructor
Interests: Family; woodworking.
The most fulfilling aspect of teaching is to watch people grow in their ability to help others.
Education Technical Specialist
Leah Daily, M.Ed., MLS(ASCP)CM
Education: Masters in Health Professions Education from Rosalind Franklin University with an emphasis on Interprofessional
Education; BS Clinical Laboratory Science, Weber State University.
Experience: Large hospital to small physicians’ clinics. Working in the clinical education field since 2006.
Interests: Being with my family, enjoying the outdoors, gardening and trying a variety of ethnic foods.
I believe each individual has a unique set of skills, when applied appropriately these individuals can excel beyond expectations. I am passionate about this career field and helping our students become the best they can be.
Lab Education Coordinator
Education: BS Business Administration, Kansas State University
Experience: More than 14 years supporting continuing education in the laboratory setting.
Interests: Camping, reading and crafts.
I enjoy interacting with the students to help them achieve their goal to become an MLS.
